The Mighty Nein, named by Jester, was traveling through a dense forest on their way to a rendezvous point. They planned to stop and rest for the evening though. The sun was setting, and due to the size of the forest, they had gotten a little turned around. Caleb got to work making a fire, while everyone else just began to settle down. Jester went to explore the surrounding area, and Fjord obviously went along with her.
"If I see another one of these trees after tomorrow, it'll be too soon," Beau sighed, running an irritated hand down her face.
"In retrospect, a map would have been helpful," Caleb said.
"Yeah, no shit," Nott said as she plopped down beside Caleb. "Ain't any booze in the forest."
Yasha sat next to Beau, picking at the grass around her. "We'll be fine. It's just one night. We've faced worse than a night on the forest floor."
"Maybe, but I for one prefer a bed," Molly said. "Preferably with a couple other people in it."
Just then, they heard a shriek nearby, followed by a startled yell. It was obviously Jester and Fjord. The rest of the group leap to their feet, startled, but ready to go see what caused the commotion. However, they didn't even get a chance to move before Jester came sprinting back into the clearing, followed a minute later by Fjord. However, the group's focus was on what Jester was holding.
Dangling like a cat being held under it's arms, was a child.
"You guys!" Jester exclaimed. "Look at what me and Fjord found! They were hiding in a tree."
"Jester, I told you to leave the kid alone. You're probably scaring them even more," Fjord panted out.
"But we have to help them!" Jester protested, still holding the obviously malnourished child like a cat.
