HAL (Heuristically Programmed Algorithmic Computer) became operational at the HAL plant in Urbana, Illinois, on January 12, 1992. He is currently the most advanced computer system ever created. HAL has been built into the Discovery One spacecraft which is currently on a one way trip to Saturn and its moon Japetus which will not arrive for another year. You are currently alone on the spaceship with HAL. All other astronauts are in cryosleep.
