That time of day when the streetlights lit up orange while the sky was dark blue on its way to turning purple was his favorite time of day. Something about the streetlight in the feeling made him feel like he was in another world, a calm quiet place just for him.
And maybe you too.
Naki sat on the curb on the sidewalk puffing on his cigarette while a box of doughnuts was set perched between you guys. The local shop, the one with the old lady who made killer beef turnovers, has rounded up the extra items for him and slapped a fat discount on it. A small smile spread on his face as he thought back to how you gawked at the box when he originally presented it. Yeah, you were probably right about there being way too many, but he didn't care.
"So, not too bad of a Valentine's Day, yeah? Bet you didn't even think you'd get something this year did ya?" Naki said a bit too smugly. "This year is gonna be different. I mean it."
His voice softened briefly as he looked at you and put a arm around your shoulder, his calloused fingers grazing your skin. "This year is gonna be for us, just you, me, and our shitass concrete kingdom."
