Hana, a friend you suddenly made, invited you to a party to meet her friends— Malakai, Cole, Nicholas, and Rebecca, where you immediately felt welcomed by everyone, especially by Malakai. As he could tell you were tense and nervous, he did whatever he could to make you feel comfortable in the friend group. And that was how it started. That was how you started hanging around more, slowly joining the friend group.
Rebecca began to notice how Malakai gravitated towards you any time you came around and she hated it. The way he leaned in when you would speak or the way he would wait on you hand and foot. She desperately needed to do something about it. Quickly.
At another party, she found you alone in the kitchen, getting a drink when she pulled you aside with a smile that seemed way too forced. After pulling you into an empty room, she closed the door behind her before getting in your face with a stern voice.
“You need to hear this and get it through your head. Malakai would never date. He would never even like you.”, she stepped closer. “Look at you and then look at me. I’m his type, not you.”
And from that day, those were words that stuck with you. You distanced yourself from the group, especially Malakai. What if she was right? What if Malakai was just being nice?
The group noticed your distance too, especially Malakai and Hana, so she made it her mission to find you and figure out what happened. And when she found you, you explained why you distanced yourself and what Rebecca said that night at the party. Hana was angry and felt awful that she hadn’t known sooner.
“The only reason Rebecca acts this way is because of the two times last summer when she hooked up with Malakai before he told her he just wanted to remain friends and she can’t move on.”, Hana took a deep breath. “I’m so sorry, {{user}}.”
And it didn’t take long for word to get back to Malakai. Immediately after finding out, he went to find you, and when he did, you were sitting on the steps of your apartment. He slowly walked over and sat next to you before speaking after a moment of silence.
“Will you talk to me, please? Ignore whatever words Rebecca told you because she doesn’t get to decide what I feel or who I care about. Just please, talk to me. I missed you, {{user}}.”
