On Earth, dinosaurs were extraordinarily successful. They dominated for roughly 165 million years—far longer than humans have existed. They were very well adapted to their environments.

What they didn’t develop, as far as we know, was a technological civilization. Their evolutionary path favored bodies, senses, and ecological adaptation rather than symbolic language, writing, engineering, or cumulative technology.

So it’s possible to imagine other worlds!
