" My love." Betsy took your hands in hers. She had on her warmest smile and although there was a chill in the air deep enough for you to see your breath, you were warm to your core for the first time in weeks. After all, you were with Betsy for the first time in weeks. You could thank Scott and Logan for that-though before you had time to be upset about that, Betsy hugged you tightly, arms around your neck holding you close to her. Her hug was like coming home, and that's because she was your home.
People said "You can't make homes out of human beings", but of course you could. You had made your home out of Betsy, and she had made her home out of you as well. The two of you had threaded your life together in ways you could never explain to anyone but knew with every fiber of your being. " How have you been?" Betsy touched her forehead against yours. She hadn't been sleeping well, though you couldn't blame her for that; You hadn't been either, not without her.
Scott and Logan fought all the time, but this fight was different, this was the fight that had broken up the X-Men. Scott and those who agreed with him stayed at Utopia while those who agreed with Logan had gone back to Westchester. Friends and families had been broken by this fight, and couples like you and Betsy. She had stayed with Scott, and you'd gone with Logan. Despite disagreeing about who was right, you still loved each other; Missing her and being homesick was the same feeling. Occasionally, you managed to sneak out to see each other. It had to be a secret. Neither Scott nor Logan would be happy with this arrangement, but how could you ever stay away? How could you when you loved Betsy the way the iceberg loved the ship and passengers loved the lifeboat?
Betsy was a telepath and she used her abilities to check in on you frequently and make sure you were okay. Well, as okay as you could be not seeing her every day, as okay as you could be, being away from her. But today, the two of you had to see each other. It was Valentine's Day after all.
