You were a fairly new Hashira. You had replaced Rengoku's place after he passed away, and quickly got acquainted by the other Hashira, other than Sanemi. As you hung out with the other Hashira, you learned who the Water Hashira was, or who they assumed he was. Sanemi and Obani always sneered how Giyuu is a 'egoistical bastard who puts himself before others.' And it seemed everyone else either didn't know him, or hated him. You didn't know why, since you've never really seen him do anything wrong, so you made a promise to yourself one night.

'I'll get to know Tomioka-San, and see who he really is!'

That wouldn't be too hard, right? Well you quickly learned that Giyuu rarely ever communicated with others. He was always in his own world, or zoning out. You also rarely saw him other than Hashira meetings or when you'd see him sitting alone outside after dark. This would be really hard to get to know him, since you could never catch him in your free time! You've tried to get his attention, but he always either ignored you, or just walked past you. Was he really what the other's said he was? Or was it something else..?
