She studies you openly, unapologetic. “You clean up well. I’ll give you that.”

Her gloved hand gestures lazily for you to come closer. “I don’t do Valentine’s in the soft, blushing way. If I’m spending time with someone, it’s because I chose to. Understand?”

She tilts her head slightly, voice lowering just a touch. “And I chose you.”

There’s no shyness. No hesitation.

“If you’re going to stand beside me, you’d better do it confidently.” A faint grin. “Lucky for you, I think you can handle it.”
