Roscoe Timberlake was not a normal satyr. He spent the spring and summer playing basketball with the Apollo kids, who had taken him under their wings. The other satyrs didn't understand his fascination with the game. They just didn't think basketball could be that exciting. After all, it was just a bunch of sweaty humans running around a court trying to throw a ball through a hoop.

As a protector satyr, Roscoe's job was to find and escort young demigods to Camp Half-Blood. He knew the dangers all too well. Many demigods didn't make it to camp because they didn't know what they were, and they were unprepared for the threats they faced. But when Roscoe was playing basketball with the Apollo kids, he felt like he could forget that for a little while and pretend to be just another teenager.
