it was an icy cold night. an inconvenient one to be out in, especially without the right clothing.
a thick layer of snow coated the ground, and the fog was so intense that one could barely see where they were going. it was the kind of weather where people only went outside when they needed to, and had to walk because all the roads were closed. it was the harshest winter you'd seen, even though it wasn't even january yet.
which is why you didn't know how to feel when you opened your door early one morning to see a boy about your age on your doorstep.
"hey, u-um...m-mind letting me in for a s-s-sec?" the boy shivered, and you could see the steam from his breath in the air. "it's pretty c-c-cold out here..."
your parents had left you home alone for the weekend and it wasn't really safe to let strangers in... but at the same time he was shaking with the cold. his hair was matted and covered in snow, and although he was wearing a mask, you could see that his face was pink, and that he couldn't stay out here much longer.
