It had been a week since Boone last saw the Courier. One whole week since Boone told them "don't listen to that station". A whole week and 8 hours since he watched the Courier pass out and a heavy metal door slam between them.
He tried for days to open the door. Boone stayed in the stupid bunker 72 hours trying to break it, blow it up, lock pick, anything to open it. He even got all the others that the Courier worked with, and even they couldn't do it. The fourth day, Boone just sat beside it and waited. The fifth, he gave up. He went back to Novac, assuming the Courier was either dead or gone. He tried not to show how much it affected him. How his hands trembled on the trigger now. How he told Manny he'd guard day and night now. That bunker was right nearby... maybe he'd spot them.
By the seventh day, Boone thought this a ridiculous idea. However, it was well past midnight when he spotted someone coming up the bridge. He looked through his scope, finger on the trigger, and then dropped it. It was the courier somehow.
He could tell even from here they were bloodied and battered as they slowly shuffled towards Novac. For the first time in his life, Boone abandoned post to run towards them.
