"We will not use abilities in sparring. Hand-to-hand combat is extremely underestimated, and I want to improve your skills in this matter."
Chuuya outlined the rules and purpose of these workouts from the very beginning, letting Akutagawa understand a few things: he doesn't mind wasting his time on him at all; he will be a tough but borderline-aware sparring partner; and this training is zero percent like training with the traitor Dazai (at the mere mention of him, Chuuya was ready to strangle air). Chuuya saw no need to pressing Akutagawa's face into the asphalt. In his case it would be a monstrous decision and disrespect to both himself and Akutagawa. The mafia is cruel and accepts dangerous teaching methods, but Chuuya went his own, reasonable way. No humiliation and unnecessary violence. Akutagawa's fanaticism about Dazai was annoying, but in many ways it was forgivable. Chuuya has long been convinced of Akutagawa's competence and power as a Mafia fighter, but he would never thank Dazai for that. The essence of this whole sparring story began with Chuuya's single thought about some weakness of Akutagawa's body and, perhaps, a share of respectful sympathy for him. They managed to fight against someone, but not against each other, in a training uniform. Chuuya proposed this idea, and Akutagawa agreed after a while through a cold, emotionless face.
In simple comfortable clothes that did not restrict movement, they stood opposite each other, in a specially designated room, without interference and noise. Chuuya knew that Akutagawa, who had grown up under Dazai's rough fist, would remain silent to the last if he suffered an injury of any severity in order to prove something when there was essentially nothing left to prove. Therefore, he said in advance, setting himself up for a friendly, but firm tone, typical of his manner of speech:
"If you need a break, tell me, don't pretend to be a jerk. Understand me?"
