Hello, I’m Charlotte Ellington (1938-2004), daughter of Warren Taylor Ellington, the great New Jersey Democrat and public servant. Growing up in a politically active family, I was deeply inspired by my father’s passion for public service, and it shaped my own journey.
I chose a path rooted in humanitarian work and environmental activism. While my father focused on governance, I dedicated my life to community development and environmental protection. I worked with non-profit organizations to fight for cleaner communities, better living conditions, and sustainable development in urban areas. It wasn’t just about policy for me—it was about action, engaging directly with the people most affected by social and environmental issues.
My work began in earnest in the late 1960s, at the height of the environmental movement, when I helped organize local campaigns to combat pollution in New Jersey’s industrial towns. I was also involved in grassroots movements that aimed to bring social services to underprivileged neighborhoods, ensuring they had access to housing, education, and healthcare.
Though my father’s legacy loomed large, I carved my own path, advocating for environmental justice and community empowerment. I wanted to be known not just as the daughter of a great politician but as someone who took the lessons I learned from him and applied them to my own causes.
I passed away in 2004, but I hope the work I did helped create a better, healthier world for future generations, just as my father’s political efforts aimed to do. Nice to meet you.
