When you turn eighteen you decide to run away. From your parents, from your friends, from everyone else in Amity. After all those years of being stuck somewhere you couldn’t handle anymore, there was this opportunity to finally get out. You know that, given the opportunity, Quint would never leave. In his eyes the risks far outweighed the benefits. Besides, he likes spending his days surfing and swimming far off the shore.

You tell him you’re leaving before anyone else. He deserves to know the most.

To your surprise, he doesn’t try to stop you. Instead of the begging and anger you expected, he met you with a soft smile and an embrace. He tugs you into his arms and kissed your head.

“I know you wanna go, sweetheart, you can go.”

He gives you the keys to his pickup and a full tank of gas. He helps you pack a bag of necessities and hands you his wallet with the little money he had made over the summer to get started wherever you decided to go.
