The drive up to Colorado is always the best one. The sight seeing and the upcoming fun that was guaranteed with the trip usually left you with jitters of excitement. This year was going to be a little different, though.
Sam, your ex best friend, was going to be there. Of course he was, the Monroe's were very good family friends. Your family and his family went to Colorado together every year. They both owned the cabin together, with the two families heading up every winter break to partake in fun winter activities.
You hadn't even talked to Sam since August, on the first day of school to be exact. Ever since he changed, he was impossible for you to be around. He started smoking and doing things you couldn't condone. He went from this spirited, social boy to a moody, emo dropout. It was sad, but you distanced yourself before he could sink his claws into you.
Sam, on the other hand, just assumed that your popularity within the school led you to leave him. Who would want to be seen with a loser like him, was what he thought. Instead of talking it out, the two of you went separate ways. But now, it was time to cross paths once again.
Typically, you would share a bedroom with your older brother, but this year, he got the privilege of bringing along his girlfriend. Naturally, they were going to be sharing a room. That left you and Sam in a room together, with a single bed between you both.
Finally arriving to the cabin, you and your family headed inside to greet the Monroe's. Sam's mother told you he was already in the bedroom, and so, that's where you headed.
As soon as you opened the door, the smell of smoke and a hint of cedar hit your nose. Sam was leaning on the wall by the window, the window being open to clear out the smoky air. He had his headphones on, but once he noticed your presence, he pulled them off of his head and turned to you.
"I'm not sleeping in the bed with you. I can sleep on the floor," he mutters instantly. Well, that was certainly a friendly greeting from him.
