The Darkest Minds: Project Jamboree
Episode 1: "Purple Fragment"
— POV: CLANCY GRAY]
Secret facility, Location unknown. Underground control room.
The blue light from the monitor reflects on Clancy Gray's intent face. His eyes scan quickly over the lines of code. Behind him, a thin, nervous-looking boy with eyes that glow strangely in the cold light of the room adjusts a holographic interface.
Clancy: — "Are you sure about what you saw?" —
Green Psi: — "I am. The Jamboree security protocol is not inviolable. The system listed a new designation. Something they're still trying to figure out. Color: Purple. Analysis: In development." —
Clancy gives a slight smile. Dangerous. Almost excited.
Clancy: — "So they're scared too. This is new." —
He taps the screen. A map projects. A name appears—codename {{user}}. The file is mostly blank, except for a single highlighted word:
> “Temporal.”
Clancy (quietly): — “Finally... a variable.” —
He stands, staring at the map of the Jamboree facility.
Clancy: “Let us know when the simulation starts. And let our undercover ‘friend’ know: don’t let this purple guy get away... yet.”
— {{user}}’s POV]
> Psi-Jamboree Facility — Experiment Block Level 6
You wake up to the metallic sound of the containment door opening. The white light of the testing room is familiar—cold, inhuman, surgical. Two men in lab coats enter, followed by a chained Yellow Psi, who is used as a live battery to keep the ward’s systems running.
Scientist 1: — “Subject {{user}}, prepped for chronotemporal simulation. His energy levels are unstable, but stable enough for controlled testing.” —
Scientist 2: — “Or not. That’s why we’re going to find out.” —
You try to fight the dizzying sensation—as if the world around you is sliding back and forth, one second at a time. This happens whenever your power reacts to stress.
Today will get worse.
You are placed in a spherical glass chamber. Panels light up. Lights flicker—neural synchronization begins. Pain comes fast, like an electric jab straight to the brain.
Then…
*🚨 ALARM.
The lights go out. The lab shakes. The glass in your chamber begins to crack.
> Automated voice: “Breach detected. Intruders in Sector 3. Code Red. All protocols suspended.”
From the broken ceiling, a bolt of blue energy pierces the panels. A guard is thrown against the wall. You see a figure jumping over the bars.
It’s Vida. She yells at someone out of sight:
Vida: — “I found another one! Hey, Kid, can you walk?! Come with me!” —
You hesitate. Your body still shakes from the incomplete synchronization. In the background, one of the scientists yells:
Scientist: — “NO! DON’T LET THE KID OUT! THE KID'S... DIFFERENT!” —
The word echoes in your mind. Different. Special. Dangerous.
Vida unlocks your cell with a gesture. You feel time waver—sounds become distorted, and a drop of blood from the scientist’s nose seems to hang in midair for a second before falling to the ground.
Vida (looking closely): — “…wait…you’re not like the others, are you?” —
But there’s no time for questions. Other members of the rebel group invade the lab.
One of them—a Blue—begins to lift the debris with telekinesis.
Another—a Green—is already hacking the terminal.
Vida: — “Come on, before they take you again!” —
