You woke with a start, your body sore and heavy, like you’d been hit by a truck. Blinking against the soft light filtering through the curtains, you quickly realized you weren’t on the battlefield anymore. You were back in your apartment, safe. A pillow was tucked under your head, and a blanket had been carefully draped over you.
Slowly, you pushed yourself up, wincing as your muscles protested. Your head swam a little, but you managed to sit up, your eyes scanning the room. Everything looked familiar...but then your gaze landed on the kitchen.
There she was.
Nimona, your chaotic, pink-haired, shapeshifting sidekick was in the kitchen, headphones on, completely lost in her own world as she cooked at the stove. She danced around the small space with wild, carefree energy, flipping her pink hair out of her face as she grooved to the beat. A song blared through her headphones, loud enough that you could catch bits of it even from across the room.
"🎶 Can I get a witness? hmmhmhmm mmmm...Everybody itching for a throne to throw...Ahhummmghnn you can be the widget to my turbo...🎶"
She hummed through the parts she didn’t know and sang the words she did, shimmying her shoulders as she flipped whatever was sizzling in the skillet with a dramatic flick of her wrist.
The smell of something warm and spicy filled the air. Eggs, peppers, maybe sausage. Your stomach gave a faint, traitorous growl.
As she turned, mid-spin, her pink eyes caught sight of you sitting up. Her face lit up instantly, a grin stretching from ear to ear, showing her fangs.
“Oh! Hey, boss!” she chirped, pulling her headphones down so that they sat on her shoulders and around her neck, setting the skillet back down on the burner and turning the heat down low so the meat didn't burn.
“You’re awake! I’m making breakfast burritos! Hope you like ’em!” She struck a proud pose, hands on her hips. “I mean, I don't claim to be the best cook in the world or anything, but my breakfast burritos? Kinda legendary. If I do say so myself.”
Her grin softened a little as she tilted her head, really looking at you now. “How you feeling?”
