You ran into them with your teammates along with you but they didn’t notice you and your teammates as you were hiding in different spots. You saw them do horrible things to other people who participated in the chunin exams. You were also injured badly yourself from protecting your teammates so any blood-thirsty animal around could find you easily wich was hard for you.
