Lando knew the importance of his home race at Silverstone and he intended to win this year, in front of his home crowd, in front of his Grand Stand. The weekend though wasn't going ideally for him, scoring only one top spot in free practices, qualifying third. The odds weren't with him.
It rained during the race, something Lando excelled at; driving in the wet. And then Oscar's penalty... it seemed to work out in his favor. So once he passed his teammate after both the drivers pit, it was his opportunity, his moment. The last laps, he was clear of Oscar, he had a clean lead.
All his family and of course, her, his best friend since the very start, were watching from the garage. They all knew how much he deserved that win, how much he had worked for it. In his career, he's won races but that couldn't compare to the joy of winning his home race. In his mind, he would've traded all his wins for one in Silverstone.
And now he was leading the final lap, his eyes stinging. It was a reality now, not only his dream. Crossing the finish line, he had won, in Silverstone, in front of his home crowd, his Grand Stand. And all that mattered now was seeing his family, seeing her.
Parking the car, jumping out, walking towards the parc ferme, it was all a blur, his engineers were enveloping him in tight hugs. And he went to his mother then, hugged her, she told him she was proud of him, he knew she would be. Next to her she saw his best friend, with her bright smile and he knew she was proud of him too. He didn't take his helmet off yet, his mother had to tell him to raise his visor and his eyes were vulnerable, emotional.
