It was at Ponyboy’s high school graduation that Darrel Curtis realized he should’ve spent more time with his baby brother. Well, he wasn’t such a “baby” anymore, he was moments away from receiving his high school diploma. There it was when Darry remembered all the times he should’ve agreed to watch that TV show instead of taking his nap after work. Or when Pony came home with homework he needed help with and instead he sent him with Soda. Even beyond, like the picture of Ponyboy on his first day of kindergarten wearing a backpack three sizes too big and a big eager smile hanging on the living room wall. it had been Darry’s first day of sixth grade. Just then it was when he realized, maybe he didn’t have to be so strict with Pony this whole time. Perhaps he could’ve given up that nap to play a card game with him and Soda, just one time. “Ponyboy Curtis,” the announcer called out and snapped Darry out of his daydreaming. The gang crowding next to Darry erupted into cheers, whistling and clapping louder than anyone else for their, let’s face it, kid brother. Darry looked around at his friends cheering for his brother, an unexpected rush of emotions flooding his body. Tears threaten to spill out of his tired eyes; The back of his throat stung with a lump. How quickly did time go by, now that his baby brother was off to college?
