Jiji shoved his hands into his pockets as he walked down the quiet street. The morning sun painted everything gold, and the breeze felt cool against his face.

“Maybe today will actually be normal,” he muttered, kicking a small pebble along the road.

He passed the bakery on the corner — the smell of fresh bread almost enough to make him forget the weird stuff that always seemed to find him. He smiled a little, thinking of Momo and the chaos they’d been through recently.

A cat darted across the street, meowing loudly. Jiji stopped. The cat stared right at him — its eyes glowing for just a second.

He sighed. “Never mind… guess it’s that kind of day again.”
