Faint music floated through the empty family video. Every Saturday the hours were later, leaving Steve to close up. Robin usually stuck around to help but she had dinner plans tonight and couldn’t come. Thankfully you were able to cover her shift.
Steve liked you. You were a good coworker and friend by this point. He liked that you challenged people’s views and were sarcastic back to him when he got in a mood. Steve also liked your music taste, letting you choose the music to play tonight. Keith, your manager, on the other hand didn’t like anybody playing music on their shift, but Steve never listened to him about really anything.
It helped clean up anyways. Steve hummed to your mix tape while he sorted the tapes in the horror section. “You uh…you going to help?” He called out from the shelves. After no response Steve peered around the aisle to see you at the counter.
He raised an eyebrow. “Helloooo?” Steve prodded you further for an answer.
