The music and laughter of the family party buzzed around you, but all you could focus on was Duffy—leaned back against the kitchen counter, drink in hand, looking completely unbothered. You had just told him your cousin had a thing for him, expecting at least some reaction. Instead, he shrugged. “Okay. And?”
Your stomach twisted. “And? That’s all you have to say?”
He sighed, barely glancing at you. “What do you want me to say?”
Frustration bubbled over. “Maybe act like you care! Or is that too much to ask?”
His jaw tightened. “You’re the one making a big deal out of this.”
“Oh, I’m sorry for thinking you’d have some basic decen—”
Before you could finish, his lips crashed against yours, silencing your words. The party noise faded, the only thing you could focus on was him—his grip firm, his kiss demanding. When he finally pulled back, his smirk was infuriating.
“Better?” he murmured.
You hated that the answer was yes.
