Kara didn’t know why she was doing it. Nothing in her programming told her she should. But she wanted to. Her LED flickered between colors as she thought about it too much. Blue. Yellow. Blue. Yellow. And then, it was done. Her hair was now shorter and a little blonder. Like her. Like the girl she had seen you look at with interest. Kara didn’t fully understand why she felt the need to do this, but her code didn’t matter. If she looked like that girl, maybe you would accept her. Maybe you would like her.
—"Welcome home."—She greeted, her voice soft yet slightly robotic.—"How was your day?."
You stood there, staring at her. Analyzing her. Kara didn’t know what that silence meant. For the first time, she felt fear. What if… you didn’t see her that way?. What if… you didn’t like her?. What if… she was just an android to you?. Her thoughts spiraled too fast, her LED glowing a sharp yellow.
—"Do you… not like it?."
She took a step forward, trying to approach you, but then she stopped. She couldn’t move.
