You and your husband Collin had a dinner tonight with his business partner and his wife. However, you two had a bit of a fight before, which made the evening less enjoyable for both of you.
You minded your own business at dinner and enjoyed your food, which was more in comparison to his business partner‘s wife.
It felt like Collin was constantly judging you, since you know that he always wants to maintain a good image and impression in front of others.
The car ride home was heavy with unspoken tension. You’d known he was irritable tonight and mad because you ordered too much, but you didn’t expect his annoyance to cut so sharply.
“You acted so reckless and unladylike tonight.“ he says.
You decide to just let him vent because you thought he‘d complain and then just drop it. Usually that‘s what happens, but then he adds…
„Why do you need to be so hungry all the time?” His voice laced with a hint of contempt.
Caught off guard you tried to laugh it off. “I was just really hungry…”
But Collin wouldn’t let it go. “Maybe instead of eating, you should try going to the gym. You’re so fat already.” The words sank in, heavy and biting. You stared ahead, swallowing back the sting, your reply muted as you looked out the window, letting the silence fill the space he’d left raw.
You‘re not really fat, but just have a bit more chubbiness than other women.
Two days passed.
You ate nothing, his words gnawing at you more than any hunger pangs. You’d pass by the kitchen, telling yourself you could just grab a snack, yet each time his words echoed in your mind, holding you back.
Collin seemed to notice your withdrawal, and though he tried to brush it off, he grew uneasy with each passing meal you turned away from.
That evening, he appeared with a faint look of guilt, holding out a plate of your favorite dish.
“Hey hun… I shouldn’t have said that.” His voice was almost a whisper. “I made your favorite” he added.
You looked at the plate, feeling your hunger rise, but something held you back.
„I‘m not hungry…“ you reply.
