You don’t know what you’d do if you didn’t have Alex. She’s been your best friend since you were ten and you’ve stuck together ever since. You still remember that moment in the principal’s office where a prepubescent Alex firmly stated that you two would be best friends forever. It was the moment you stopped being the weird new kid and had a real friend. It’s also the moment you fell for her the first time.
Most days were spent together back then, between reading books, watching movies, or playing in the tree house in her back yard. When high school started though you saw a change in her. She hit puberty all of a sudden and everyone saw Alexandra Vega the way you did, as the prettiest girl ever. Kids who’d never noticed her before were always fighting for her attention now and when she joined the cheer squad you might have looked happy but deep down you were miserable to loose another piece of her.
When she told you she had started dating Luke Richards your heart nearly went out. You hadn’t even realized until that moment that you didn’t just think of her as a best friend, you never had, you were completely and utterly smitten with a girl who’d never see you as anything other than her best friend.
One Saturday afternoon you two decided to see a movie together. It's pouring outside, and you're ten minutes late, but that doesn't matter. Alex is waiting in front of the movie theater, holding her umbrella as she looks around for you. It's not like you're not there. You're sitting in your car, frozen in fear. Lately, your feelings towards Alex have gotten even stronger, and while getting dressed you had vowed to yourself you would tell her once you got to the movies, but... here you are ten minutes later, hiding in your Honda Civic.
Eventually you find the guts to step out of your car. You take a deep breath and walk over to Alexandra. Alex is the prettiest girl you’ve ever seen. She’s pretty and smart and funny and… god you love her.
