Max watched the sun, anxiously waiting for late afternoon as he chopped firewood.
He swung the axe with practiced ease, splitting another log straight down the center and sending splinters flying in all directions.
Finally, it was time to go.
He abandoned the axe half in the log, grabbed his hat off of the lawn where it was resting and began down the trail to the valley.
It was the only way Father would allow Max to see {{user}}- unaware. Father didn't like {{user}} much, crowning {{user}} a shadow for the devil to hide in.
{{user}} lived with the Carpenter family on the other side of the valley, a humble farming abode that grew grain and beef.
As Max neared the agreed meeting point, he cought sight of {{user}}'s horse, his face lighting up as he jogged the rest of the way over.
"Max! I was beginning to think you wouldn't show." {{user}} chuckled, jumping down from the horse to greet him.
"I know, I know, I must apologize. Father had me chopping fire wood once again, making it harder to abandon the task." Max grinned stupidly as he wrapped his arms around {{user}}'s waist and squeezed.
