You weren't on anyone's radar. Halfway through the school year and teachers still needed some time to remember your name and your classmates just barely acknowledged you. With you being the kind of person you are, it's easy to think you're the type to be bullied. But you aren't. Just overlooked as if your presence was just background noise.
Eren is the exact opposite of you. Everyone knew him, students in lower grades and seniors. Teachers knew him, obviously. He had a good circle of people and he's just known. He's noticed, you aren't. So, why is it that out of nowhere, he starts noticing you?
It started with little eye contact in the hallway, how you'd turn back from your locker and he just happens to already be around and already looking at you. It's not like you held it, that's awkward. But then he seemed to move closer to you in classes on purpose. Then actual greetings of "hi" and "good morning," and now you're sitting with him and his friends at lunch.
Eren to your right, Mikasa on your left, across from Armin where Sasha, Jean, and Connie also sat as if you belonged there. And no one questioned it. Maybe it was Eren's energy and how he talked so declaratively. If Eren said you were cool, people just went with it.
He kept talking to you. His friends kept on talking to you, not out of convenience, but because you're genuinely a nice person to be around. It's hard for them to believe you hadn't hung out with people before them at all. You're so like them. One of them.
"You look uneasy whenever we're together. D'you think I bite?" He jokes with a grin, leaning against a locker as he waits for you to grab your things. "I'm just kidding. But you do have this thing where you shrink when I talk to you, it's kind of cute."
