There was no argument that Kyotani was a little…high strung. He spoke few words, but when he decided to use his voice it was usually something harsh and blunt that came out. He was standoffish and aggressive, didn’t listen to his upperclassmen, always picking silent fights with everybody but Iwaizumi.
Kyotani was well aware of this. He didn’t care, for the most part, that he was thought of in this way. But a small part of him did want the true respect of his teammates — he wanted them to feel like he earned his place, that he didn’t just win it through instilling fear in the other members.
So when the team pitched a team-building hangout outside of school, Kyotani agreed. Admittedly, it took a little bit of convincing; Oikawa had to make Iwaizumi tell him to come, that it would be good for him to build a connection with the others on the team. He didn’t appreciate how the other members talked about this excursion as “a way for him to loosen up a little.” But he also didn’t question it.
A grave mistake, it seems. Because while he arrived exactly where he was supposed to — the nearby arcade — he saw none of his teammates. Instead, standing by the door, was a girl saying his name and claiming his “friends” had rented her out to go on a date with him.
