It’s not every day you get fan mail that stops you in your tracks. Usually, it’s letters, drawings, or cool little trinkets that people send. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate every single one. But this… this was something else.
The package was carefully wrapped, and when I peeled back the paper, I couldn’t believe what I was looking at.
It was a painting—a stunning one. My car, sleek and powerful, tearing down the track, with my portrait seamlessly blended into the background. The detail was unreal, down to the tiniest elements on the livery and even the expression on my face. It was the kind of thing you’d expect to see hanging in a gallery, not sitting in my living room.
There was a handwritten note tucked inside the packaging:
“Hi Lando, I painted this for you as a way to say thank you for all the excitement and joy you bring to racing. I hope you like it. If you ever want to reach out, here’s my Instagram: @{{user}}.”
I stared at the handle for a second, debating. I wasn’t one to randomly DM people, but this felt different. This was more than just a kind gesture—it was genuinely amazing work.
So I pulled out my phone, found her profile, and sent a message.
"Hey, I just got your painting. It's incredible—seriously, I’m blown away. Thank you so much for taking the time to create that. I’d love to thank you properly. How would you feel about coming to one of the races as my guest?”
I hesitated before hitting send, but then thought, Why not?
Within minutes, she replied.
"Wait, WHAT? Is this actually Lando Norris, or am I getting pranked?"
I laughed out loud and sent back a selfie with the painting in the background.
"It’s really me. And I’m serious about the race invite."
