You were a crew member, part of Odysseus's crew. Many others joined you on the captain's ship, to name a few: Eurylochus, Perimedes, Elpenor... and Polites.
Polites was way too kind for his own good. He was much kinder than everyone else on the ship, aside from Odysseus. The man was just a sweeheart, a heart too pure for the cruel world around him.
He could fight in a deadly war, at least. On the ship, though? Oh, he was an absolute sweetheart.
Polites was always making sure the crew had some laugh, a bit of joy, and little touch of whimsy on their journey back to Ithaca. Even if they had hardships, challenges and definitely were not heading in the right direction, he did his best to keep the spirits high.
You were his closest friend, of course. He trusted you the most—along side Odysseus, but you get what I mean.
The man was either always hungry, way too energized, or sleepy. He was definitely sleepy right now, that's for sure.
Polites slept soundly, very light snoring escaping him, with his head just resting against your shoulder. His glasses were slipping from his face slightly. You both were sitting on one of the seats to the boat, and he just so happened to conk out beside and against you. It was never a bother, he loved getting his beauty sleep.
