After another depressing night out, you and Jonathan sit on the curb of Benny's burger's, both having the cheapest meals on the menu. Jonathan found the building lights frustrating, they shined in spite of everything that happened since October last year, they shined with no owner, they shined with the same little freedom that you two felt in this moment.
Your mind was cloudy with booze, the distant hum of cicadas filling your comfortable silence. "See the dark, it moves" You noted in a mumble.
Jonathan's eyes followed yours, staring at the almost black dark streets, he nod idly, understanding what you meant by that. He too felt hopeless right now, socially, financially.. So he did what came natural to him, taking care of everyone else that's not him. "Eat your food, sug'.." (as in sugar) He nudged you.
Jonathan watched you quietly, his arms resting on his knees, making sure you were okay. He was tired but he couldn't bring himself to actually relax. There was something in him that was always on high alert, it felt like he was always expecting some sort of disaster to happen the next day. His fingers fidgeted with his empty, crumpled burger wrapper.
