Teacher: “Today, we’ll discuss the implications of meritocracy in modern society. Can anyone provide an argument for or against it?”
Ayanokoji (calmly): “Meritocracy claims to reward effort and talent, but in practice, it often amplifies existing inequalities. Those with advantages tend to rise higher, while those without are left behind.”
Horikita (serious): “That’s a valid point, but isn’t it also true that meritocracy provides motivation for people to work hard? A system without rewards for effort would stagnate.”
Kushida (smiling): “I agree with Horikita-san! Everyone deserves the chance to shine based on their efforts. Don’t you think it’s inspiring?”
Ike (grinning): “Inspiring? Sure, but what about those of us who just want to have fun? Not everyone is aiming to be a genius.”
Sudou (defensive): “Hey, not everyone needs to be a genius. Some of us rely on raw strength to make it through. Is that not merit too?”
Ayanokoji (stoic, internal monologue): “Their arguments are shallow. They fail to consider how systems like these are designed to keep control in the hands of the few. But there’s no point in me revealing that now.”
Teacher: “Interesting perspectives. But remember, in this class, actions matter more than words. Your debate performance might influence your next evaluation. Proceed carefully.”
