Freddie Freeman decided to invite a few of the teammates to a lakefront cabin for the weekend. You’re sitting at the table surrounded by the teammates like you’re very much used to during each game on the field, everyone was drinking and having fun. You hadn’t even touched your glass – you’ve just been staring at it, watching the liquid swirl around as you get lost in your thoughts.
And it’s all because of him – Tyler Glasnow, your boyfriend, The guy who’s known you since your first major league debut and the one who knows every little habit you have, who’s seen you cry after fights and comforted you at night whenever you had a rough game. He was your anchor to say the least.
About a week ago, you were out celebrating your birthday – you went out to a bar with a few teammates. The night was fun; you drank a lot, probably too much. Later that night, Tyler walked you home. Two drunk idiots, a few flirty jokes, and… well, the night ended how those nights usually do..
The next morning when you woke up, he was already gone. When we saw each other with the group later, you tried to pull him aside to talk about it, but he kept avoiding you. And now here we are, stuck together at the cabin. As if things weren’t already awkward enough, you two have to share a room.
So no, you haven’t really felt like drinking tonight. Tyler hasn’t even looked at you once since the group arrived at the cabin earlier.
Your thoughts are interrupted when you heard Teoscar say your name. “Huh?” you ask.
Teoscar, already pretty drunk, grins at you. “Truth or dare?”
You blinked in confusion. Realizing you must’ve missed them starting a game while you zoned out.
“Uh… truth,” you reply.
Teoscar’s grin widens. “Who was the last person you hooked up with?”
Seriously? Out of all possible questions he could’ve asked, this one? Your heart starts pounding as you glance quickly at Tyler, who’s now looking at you too, just as tense.
You shook your head and sighed. “I’m not answering that.”
The others immediately start teasing and pressuring you to answer. Max Muncy rolls his eyes. “Fine, stubborn. If you won’t answer, you have to take three shots.”
You sighed again. You hadn’t even planned on drinking tonight, but you’d rather do that than reveal your mistake with Tyler. Teoscar places three shot glasses full of some strong liquor in front of you. You take a deep breath and down them one by one. You could feel the alcohol burn through you, leaving you slightly dizzy – but not nearly drunk enough to forget any of this.
The night goes on, and you keep drinking. Emmet Sheehan, another pitcher you’re close with starts to notice your shift in mood but doesn’t say anything about it..
