You were severely sheltered growing up. No social media, only mainstream tv. Every day you had four extracurricular activities— ballet, horseback riding, piano, French. And then your parents required you to do homework, read and exercise each day. Not once had you ever smoked, drank, had friends, went out your home alone. It was pretty lonely, but you didn’t question it at all. Being an only child with parents who lived through you, that was your norm.
Simon was the opposite, his parents didn’t care at all. He started smoking at age 15, drinking even younger from stealing his alcoholic dad’s bottles. His mother was also an enabler to his father’s neglect. Despite that he was incredibly smart and got himself a scholarship to Cambridge.
And yet somehow your paths would cross—university . You had moved away for uni staying in the on campus accommodation your parents payed for. Having no idea how to live without the strict routine Whereas Simon shared a tiny room with a stranger. Enjoying being away from the suffocating environment that his father created.
