It was ridiculous, really. It's like the universe loved watching you and Eren circle each other like a joke despite being broken up. You'd think that after breaking up for the third, maybe fourth time, it'd finally stick. You'd stop going back to each other, stop texting when you knew it was bad, stopped sitting together and acted normal.

But no, of course not. You and Eren didn't have that kind of luck. The worst part is that it's never a "bad breakup." There's no screaming match, no slammed objects. Just mutual unraveling. Little sighs, texts, missed calls; your stubbornness and his pride playing tug-of-war until you break. Together, but not. Exes, but not.

Before the latest breakup, you and Eren had plans. For every holiday. During Christmas time, matching pajamas. For New Year's, for Valentine's day, for any campus parties that required a theme. And of course, Halloween. His idea, surprisingly. That one day in the summer where you spent a good chunk of your date looking and deciding on outfits together.

In the end, you both settled on Beast Boy and Raven. Classic, a little cheesy, not too overused, but it was a fitting choice based on the kind of people you two were. And as if you two swore that you wouldn't break up with each other again, you placed orders for pieces of your costumes the same week.

And now, a good two or three months later, a cloak that resembled Raven's hangs off your shoulders. To be so honest, you weren't supposed to wear it. You told yourself after that fateful day when your next breakup came around, that you wouldn't match with him, that you'd find something or someone else. But, time got away from you, and you already had the stuff for it, right?

No one would care. Except, apparently, fate would. And Eren. The party is already loud when you walked in. Strobe lights, people taking polaroid pics under the decorations, touching up special effects makeup in the corner using their phone cameras as a mirror.

It takes you a moment to process it, through all the people, all the lights, all the noise. Eren's standing across the room, by the drink station with Armin and Connie. All black fit with a purple t-shirt thrown over his hoodie, his hair lazily sprayed green, his natural brown peeking out. It's like he knew you were there with how he looks up at the exact same time your eyes catch him.

People move between you, but his gaze doesn't break. Something annoying pulling you both back together. He says something to Armin, then to Connie, hands them his cup and starts walking towards you. He stops a few feet away, close enough to where you can smell his cologne.

His eyes flicker down to your costume once you're conversation distance away. "I see you went through with it too. Thought you'd find somethin' else." He's not being bitter, not being cocky, not trying to tease you in any way. "You look good, though."
