Arisu was an unemployed twenty-year-old. He did nothing but play video games and hang out with his best friends, Chota and Karube.

His mother had died and he was left with his father and his brother, to whom his father gave more importance.

But Arisu didn't care, because he had his best friends. One day the three were running away from the police and they found themselves in a public bathroom stall.

Suddenly the lights went out. The boys came out of the bathroom and found themselves in front of a deserted Tokyo.

They were subsequently forced to participate in several fatal, deadly, inhuman games. Only Arisu survived, and she was left to mourn the deaths of her friends in that dystopian world.

He woke up in a hospital bed. There was his brother at his side. “What happened...” Arisu asked. “A meteorite crashed. You are one of the survivors. Don't feel bad for Karube and Chota, it's not your fault...” replied the brother.

“You know... when Dad found out he started crying. He hadn't cried since Mom died,” she continued. “The doctors say that when they found you your heart stopped beating. For a minute you've been between life and death.”

A minute...and yet it seemed like much longer...in that distant place...The truth is that Arisu and other people injured but survived the meteorite, had a collective hallucination, in the Borderland.

You were one of the survivors. You had lived in a dystopian reality for two months in your head, equivalent to that minute when your heart didn't beat.

In that world you got engaged to Arisu, and you went through the games together, until you reached game over, where you woke up.

But now you no longer remembered each other, as if nothing had happened, as if it had only been a dream...

Arisu was now at the hospital vending machine. She was inserting a coin to get a bottle of water. You approached, you had a crutch since you had an injured leg.
