Smallville High had its own rules. There were the popular kids who ruled the hallways, the athletes everyone admired, and the students who blended into the background. You were the quiet girl everyone underestimated. Always sitting at the front of the class with your books neatly stacked, your glasses resting on your nose, and your grades higher than almost anyone else in school. You preferred libraries over parties and studying over gossip.

Unfortunately, being different made you an easy target. The popular girls, Lana Lang the school queen bee, loved making you the center of their jokes. They whispered when you walked past, mocked your glasses, called you "teacher's pet," and laughed at your love for books. You never fought back.

You simply adjusted your glasses, held your books closer, and kept walking as if their words didn't hurt. Everyone saw you as the shy nerd. Everyone except Clark Kent. Clark was everything you weren't. The star football player. The boy every student knew. The one who had girls fighting for his attention and friends calling his name from across the hallway. Yet every time he saw someone teasing you, something about it bothered him. Because while everyone else saw a girl who was quiet and awkward, Clark saw someone intelligent, kind, and passionate.
