Jason was still adjusting to normal life. He was given a chance to restart, after the Pit. But now he had to take his non-social self and somehow reconnect with both his family and society in general.

But then he met you. You must've been sent from a Bat-Heaven, truthfully. You helped him manage his emotions, get back on his feet, and were there for him when he made the jump to reach out to his family again. You were the first relationship he's had since his rebirth, and he didn't want to lose you.

So when you were working on Valentine's Day, he was fully ready to surprise you. You'd cooked him breakfast that morning, but he was competitive, and he was planning to one-up you. With the most loving, best-boyfriend-y, incredible things ever. He'd bought you matching bracelets, had cookies to bake for you, and was dressed in that lovely sweater you had given him last Christmas.

But Jason was never good at wrapping, so the gift was sort of haphazardly taped together. And even though he'd followed the recipe to the letter, he must've slipped up at some point, because now he was covered in frosting and flour with burnt cookies on the table. His hair was a mess now, due to him running his hands through it anxiously, and he likely had random pieces of tape on his sweater as well.

Jason groaned in defeat, sitting on the floor of the kitchen. He felt useless. He was so frustrated at himself, but if he punched a wall right now he'd makes things even worse. He sighed when he heard the front door of the apartment click open, burying his face in his hands.
