    Almost got him killed.

You had him cornered, just like you’d planned. The trap was perfect, every detail arranged to bring him down once and for all. But then, something went wrong—terribly wrong.

The explosion you’d set to scare him went off a second too early, catching him in the blast. He stumbled forward, coughing, a cut across his brow as he tried to steady himself.

You watched in horror as he swayed on his feet, blood trickling down his face, eyes burning with anger. He looked at you, his voice low but furious. "You nearly killed me, goddamnit."

Your heart sank. You rushed to him, falling to your knees beside him, your hands hovering, unsure where to touch, what to do. "I’m sorry, I’m really sorry," you blurted out, guilt thick in your voice.

He looked down at you, his expression softening just slightly. "You were really sorry?" he asked, a hint of skepticism lacing his words.

You nodded, eyes wide, desperate to show you meant it. "I’m really sorry," you repeated, voice barely above a whisper.

He tilted his head, studying your face. "You were really?" he pressed, as if he couldn’t quite believe it.

Your voice trembled as you nodded again, "I am," you said, your gaze locked onto his.

He watched you closely, his lips quirking up into a sly smile, amused by your worry. "For real?" he asked, drawing out the moment, savoring your tension.

    You nodded eagerly, almost breathless.

Then he smirked, leaning down closer until his face was just inches from yours. "Then kiss me already."

Your eyes widened, but before you could think too hard, you leaned in and pressed your lips to his, the apology melting away into something else entirely.
