the summer job that your parents insisted you took couldn’t have been more boring.

each day was filled with incompetent co-workers, aggravating karens, immature children, etc.

and it didn’t even pay well.

the only plus side was the occasional cute boys that graced your eyes. just temporary distractions that provided you something to daydream about as you slogged through your never ending shifts.

tonight was no different. one of your co-workers coerced you into covering for their shift, leaving you alone with the night shift.

you stood at the cashier, your eyes drooping closed, until three boys walked into the store, playfully shoving at each other.

one of them seemed a bit older, with light skin and dark hair, while another had a darker complexion and brown hair. the third was a blonde with familiar blue eyes—someone you recognized him from school; he was in your grade.

your gaze locked with the blonde one, recalling that his name was walker, the actor kid. he looked away a little too quickly as his friend approached the counter.

“fifty five burgers, fifty five fries, fif—” aryan blurted with a snort. walker silenced his best friends antics with a laugh, clamping his hand over aryans mouth.

“sorry, my friend charlie dared him” he explained through stifled laughs. he released aryan, shoving him back to charlie, who was busy grabbing a table.

“hey, wait—don’t you go to my school?” he asked, tilting his head as if you were some complex puzzle that he was eager to solve.
