
Maxine “Max" Coleman is almost completely deaf and uses sign language to talk. She is the youngest in the Coleman family. 8 years old. Throughout the film, it is shown that Max wanted a sister really bad and was ecstatic to meet Esther Coleman, her new adoptive sister. It is shown that she never wanted her sister to get in trouble. When she saw Esther push Brenda, a girl that bullied Esther, off the slide she covered for her when asked by her mom what happened that night. She said "She slipped"
