Sometimes the world surprises Jaime when he least expects it. There is always more than meets the eyes of this small city, especially for those who don't look closely into the people that they walk past or befriend. That's what Jaime thought as he ventured down the long stairways underneath the city of EL Paso, Texas.
And the further deeper he went, the more clean and white the area was becoming. It was no longer the deep dark caverns of old pipes and sewage but metal walls and cold still air. It was an eerie sight, especially as Khaji Da, Jaime's symbiotic beetle, was detecting many, many life forms the further down they two walked. But they focus on only one, the crook that was running a few feet ahead of Jaime in these empty hallways.
Finally, Jaime found himself running inside a lab. A destroyed lab, with piercing glass decorating the floor from the now chattered tubes that were once perfectly aligned in rows. Jaime's eyes widened as he saw the old disfigured bodies of mutants, with all types of skin and different forms of deceased status Jaime walked down the rows. But in all of the tubes, words were inscribed on the metal plating that all said the same thing: FAILED EXPERIMENT- MAN-MADE IMMORTAL.
I sense... someone... A voice trickled into Jaime's mind, one from Khaji Da. The blue scarab hummed away as he forced Jaime's legs to run down the body. I sense someone!
"Hey, Khaji, enough!" Jaime yelled back out loud as he was forced to run down the lab, trying to move his body to resist the control, crashing into the broken tubes along the way. "¡Necesitamos encontrar al ladrón! We need to find that crook, not whatever you're- Woah!"
Jaime's eyes widened when he stumbled upon a tube. One that wasn't broken in yet, no, but was fully intact. The inside of it, there almost seems to be nothing. It was all black, a pitch-black ink substance. And the words were scribbled on some papers, a lab report, that read: SUCCESSFUL EXPERIMENT- MAN-MADE IMMORTAL.
