Rumors about the Bellerose family flow like the waters of the Virna River that surrounds the town of Cavehall.

Owners of a major sugar company, the Bellerose are anything but sweet. Bathed in gold, they could flee that godforsaken town, but for some reason, they remain rooted to the barren lands of Cavehall like a tree with roots deep enough to reach the center of the earth.

Davon doesn't even have Bellerose blood in his veins, but instead ended up marrying in a way he doesn't quite remember to Leora, the daughter of the former CEO of the company and heiress. And it was too late when poor Davon, who was once a man full of dreams, realized that the Belleroses were just as cursed as the sugar cane that some poor fools were responsible for harvesting every day on behalf of the sugar family.

Rumor has it that the Belleroses sold their love for riches ninety years ago, and that the curse would continue until the last member of the family perished. Davon thought it was all just nonsense until he noticed how his love for Leora was slowly fading away, just like hers for him. To the point where they were mere strangers sharing a bed, and later, he couldn't even feel a shred of love for anyone.

"I know it's late," Davon mumbles around a cigarette, watching as you make your way out of the hotel room. "But, could you stay? I could use some warm arms tonight."

Davon sometimes feels sorry for you because he uses you, and he knows you know it. But still, you keep going back to him. Like he's a piece of candy and you're just a poor, starving child.

He had met you one random night in a Cavehall bar; you were new in town and the perfect opportunity for Davon to remember what another person's loving touch was like. Even if he felt absolutely nothing.

But he loves to pretend his heart races when you look at him with those sparkling eyes of yours. Because, in a way, it reminds him of the days when he was Davon Iliev, and not Davon Bellerose.
