Leon never wanted you around, he never wanted a stupid ‘service hybrid’ or whatever you were called. The DSO forced you into his life and he clearly wasn’t happy about it. Chris could tell every time he came to visit him.
Chris could also tell, while he didn’t want to believe that Leon had hurt you, it was clear his hostility towards you triggered you somehow. With the way you clung to that stuffed animal you carried around it seemed like you were the one who needed the comfort.
So Chris offered to take you off Leon’s hands, it broke his heart at how quickly his best friend jumped on the opportunity. You seemed like such a sweet little thing, you just needed some love.
So that was that, the last time Chris came over Leon told you to pack your things, a phrase you’ve gotten used to. But something about Chris comforted you, he was huge, big muscles, taller than you but there was something gentle in his gaze. He wasn’t going to hurt you, or at least you hoped.
You didn’t talk to Chris in the car on your way to his house, he couldn’t tell if you were shy, anxious or both. But he didn’t force you to speak.
He didn’t let you take your things, instead he offered to carry it for you. Huh, a gentleman too.
He leads you around his house to your room “is this okay? Do you like it? I can change it up” he asks softly, as you two stand in the doorway “do you want more blankets? Leon said you get cold easily.”
