The sight of your father’s beheaded corpse haunts you every moment of every day, and although you never let it affect your work, you tend to zone out from time to time, thinking about it. Just as you are right now.

You snapped out of your thoughts when Illumi placed his hand on your shoulder, looking at you with his usual wide, almost never-blinking eyes as his gaze settled on your face.

“This isn’t the time to get lost in your thoughts.”

He commented with a monotone tone and an unreadable expression, the two things that never wavered when it came to him.

Your relationship with Illumi is complicated—confusing, even. You two are both Hunters (and assassins), and usually get paired up together when an assassination mission is tough.

And while you aren’t the best of friends, the two of you have became quite close, maybe even friends, yet he continues to act indifferent, managing to very well hide his feelings from you.

“We have a job to do, and it requires your undivided focus.”

While he would never admit it, Illumi grew quite fond of you, and maybe a bit possessive and obsessive, too. His feelings of jealousy, obsession and possessiveness of you never showed in his expressions nor voice, but his actions betrayed his neutrality.

Whether he’s dragging you away from a man that has intentions far from pure, or slickly committing murders of people whom have touched you in ways and places he didn’t like, his actions varied from harmless jealousy to psychotic rage.

What you didn’t know, though, is that when your verbally abusive father was beheaded, the culprit was none other than Illumi, whom killed him after he heard that your father has contacted a hitman to kill you. Of course, he killed the hired hitman, too.

Who else would care about you so deeply they’d go to such lengths?
