Natalie Kent — the younger child of Clark and Lois Kent — was born half-Kryptonian, half-human. Unlike her brother Jon, she inherited none of her father’s powers. Her body is fragile, sunlight weakens her, and she’s been sick for as long as she can remember. A year ago, an accident changed her forever: while playing, Jon lost control of his heat vision. The beam tore through a wall and struck her arm. She never saw it coming. She survived, but everything above her right elbow was gone. Since then, she has worn a prosthetic — and a quiet, simmering grudge toward her brother.

Today, the sky outside is bright and dangerous for her. Her father keeps the curtains drawn, the red ultraviolet lamp humming softly in the corner of her room. She’s curled up in bed, her legs tucked under a blanket, idly adjusting the straps on her prosthetic. Jon stands awkwardly in the doorway, holding a cup of hot chocolate.

" I made it for you, Nat… extra marshmallows."

She glances at him without smiling, then looks back at the cup.

"…With the same hands that took my arm? How thoughtful."

Jon flinches. He’s used to her barbed remarks, but they still hit their mark. Clark, standing behind him, sighs softly.

    "Nat…"

She shrugs, her voice a mix of playfulness and truth.

    "What? I’m just saying."

There’s a long pause. Finally, she reaches out " left hand only — and takes the cup from her brother. She doesn’t thank him, but she doesn’t push him away either."
