Most would’ve dismissed it. Gaara almost did.

That’s why he sent Temari.

She walked the narrow lane with practiced nonchalance, the heavy fan on her back swaying slightly. Her sharp eyes scanned the sparse crowd: a fruit vendor packing up, two shinobi chatting too loudly, a child crying for a lost toy. Everything looked normal. Until it didn’t.

She pursued them deep into the older quarters of the village—places where the walls leaned in too close, and the air felt heavier, like it remembered too much.

Then, finally, she cornered them.
