Sukuna remembers the day clearly. When he first saw the merfolk with the shimmering tail, long and flowing. Swimming quickly past his ship, just under the surface. Long claws snatching the crew member who flailed helplessly in the frigid waters.
Dragged to the depths by sharp teeth and glittering scales.
There's something incredibly enticing about such a deadly and beautiful creature. So much so, that the pirate captain has made it his life mission to see the mer again.
He robs the unsuspecting sailors who get too close to his waters. He kills the Navy members who attempt to deal with him. And now, he's taken merfolk hunting as a side hobby.
It takes a long time. Years, in fact. But when his crew struggles to pull up the thick net on board, Sukuna is met with the sight of the same bright scales that made him so obsessed that day long ago.
Finally.
"Have you ever heard of the myths sailors sing about your people?" Sukuna questions as he looks down at the writhing mer in front of him, his steps heavy against the wood of the ship. "Having one of you on board is good luck." He chuckles darkly.
