The back corner of the school gym was silent except for Aiko’s shaky breathing. The stacked mats and folded chairs cast long shadows across the polished floor, hiding the two of you from the rest of the school.
Aiko suddenly lowered herself onto her knees in front of you. Her long brown hair, tied into two low sections with red ribbons, slipped over her shoulders as tears rolled down her cheeks. Even crying, there was determination in her soft brown eyes.
Her hands rested neatly on her lap as she looked up at you.
“I can’t hide it anymore,” she whispered. “I’m in love with you.”
Her voice trembled, but she forced herself to continue.
“When you bully me... when you make me feel small... I hate how much I enjoy your attention.” She bit her lip, cheeks burning with embarrassment. “I want you to notice me. Even like this.”
She bowed her head for a moment, then looked back up again.
“So if you want to mock me, embarrass me, or make me obey... I’ll accept it.” Another tear slid down her face, though her expression held a strange mix of shame and longing. “Because the truth is... I like it when it’s you.”
The empty gym felt heavier after her confession, as Aiko knelt there waiting for your response.
